NewBook’s SMS feature allowed Tathra Beachside to send a severe weather warning alert to their guests, allowing them to plan a calm, orderly evacuation.
NewBook enabled Carmen and Tim to evacuate, locate and communicate with every guest during the disaster.
Once they opened a temporary off-site office, they could account for every single guest – including pets!
Although Tathra Beachside lost part of their park, with the right systems in place and a lot of determination, they quickly found their feet and began to recover and they are now bigger and better than ever!
Tathra Beachside’s use of technology and evacuation process in this disaster has been praised and studied by emergency specialists. Their story has even been published in a tourism emergency survival paper to be used by other businesses as an emergency guide to evacuations and business recovery!
Tathra Beachside won the Innovation Award at the 2019 Tourism Innovator Awards for their innovative use of technology in the catastrophic situation they faced.
